Scripture is breathed out by God and profitable for teaching, for reproof, for correction, and for training in righteousness, that the man of God may be complete, equipped for every good work.” (2 Timothy 3:16-17). These reflections are meant to inspire us to become more and more like Jesus in thought, word and action, and to depend on God’s enabling Holy Spirit. Please consider taking time daily to ask God to tell you what you need to do in response and then write it down before you forget!

sincere faith, which first lived in your grandmother Lois and in your mother Eunice and, I am persuaded, now lives in you also.” I was struck by the fact that the Apostle Paul was aware of faith living in Timothy and his mother and grandmother. Their faith was alive and evident to others. It took me on a journey to try to understand the very nature of living faith and what it takes to make faith alive. James’ epistle helped by providing a definition for dead faith, namely it’s “faith not accompanied by action” (James 2:17). God looks for a response to his word, over and above intellectual assent, that response is obedience. Put bluntly, we are Jesus’ lifelong apprentices, “created for good works” (Ephesians 2:10). Sometimes we can fall into the trap of simply considering what God’s word means in context, without going on to establish what it means subjectively to us. What must I do? James makes this clear, “Be doers of the word, and not hearers only” (James 1:22).
 Why do I say this? I say it because, “All
