Friday January 9 - I will give authority
“To the one who is victorious and does my will to the end, I will give
authority over the nations...” Revelation 2:26
To make sense of our scripture today, I encourage you to read verse 26 above, followed by verse 27: “He will rule them with an iron sceptre, and will dash them to pieces like pottery – just as I have received authority from my Father.” These words of Revelation 2:27 also appear in Psalm 2:9, a Messianic psalm revealing how God the Father gave his son, the Messiah, to rule over the nations during the ‘Millennium’ (the period of a thousand years when Yeshua will reign on earth). Psalm 2 is also quoted elsewhere in the Bible, including Peter’s speech in Acts 4:25-26, which describes how the rulers of earthly nations resist God’s Anointed (his elect King), but he cannot be conquered.
Although there are many signs of increased rebellion against God, and life on earth is becoming darker, we can always look forward to the hope of Messiah’s return. Are you ready for this? Ask God to reveal an area of your life that needs honing and purifying to reflect his radiance and splendour more fully to the world. Are you willing for him to work in your life, as needed, to root out any ‘weeds’ (not taking care of the mind, body and spirit) which you might have ignored out of ignorance, complacency, or even stubbornness? Remember that weeds that aren’t dealt with grow fast and out of control!
Father, you encourage us to keep working on ourselves. I pray that I will be committed to do so. Amen.
Saturday January 10 - Healing in his wings
“I will also give that one the morning star. Whoever has ears, let them
hear what the Spirit says to the churches.” Revelation 2:28-29
It needs to be dark and very early in the morning to see the morning star. I’d love to see it, but I know that I won’t miss the real Morning Star! In the book of Malachi, he predicts that ‘... the sun of righteousness will arise with healing in its wings’ (Malachi 4:2). In Revelation 22:16 Yeshua declares, “I am the Root and the Offspring of David, and the bright Morning Star.”
The Morning Star can be seen as signifying light, direction and eventual victory over darkness. It serves as a ray of hope and comfort, guiding our way in times of uncertainty and hopelessness. This is further emphasised in 2 Peter 1:19 which speaks of ‘a light shining in a dark place, until the day dawns and the morning star rises in our hearts.’
Imagine receiving the Morning Star by the Son of God, as a reward for persevering in our faith and submission to him. It is through this promise that Yeshua brings to mind his continual presence in our lives, directing us towards inner peace and spiritual wholeness.
We must all listen to Yeshua’s words to all seven churches in Revelation chapters 2 and 3 and abide by them. In summary: do not let your love grow cold; do not fear the persecution of the world; avoid sexual and spiritual adultery. Trust the Word of God!
Lord, thank you for everything you have taught me through this week. Help me to be courageous and proactive. Amen.
