 MY STORY
So where do I start to talk about my journey with God that has happened to me since being in HMP Chelmsford? It all started on 5th April when I was remanded in custody, emotionally and mentally broken, no hope, no faith in my life whatsoever. I was so low and given up on life.
I don’t attend church on the outside and have never been very religious at all. I was totally lost, but I signed up to go to church on Sunday mornings. On my first Sunday, I picked up a Bible and thought to myself, why not give it a read? I got enough time to myself, sitting in my cell 22 hours a day, so I might as well read it to kill time. From the moment I started reading it I was so intrigued by what I was reading but still had reservations. One night, I prayed while laying there, I asked God if you are real please help me. Show me a sign you are real, anything so I would believe. The next morning Pastor Ian attended my cell, asking to speak to me. We went up on the landing and found a quiet place to chat. I just broke down in tears. We chatted and he prayed for me.
God sent Pastor Ian to me that day to show me he was there for me. Ever since that day so many things have happened. God came into my life that day and changed me so much as a person. He has filled the biggest hole in my heart that I have had all my life, the feeling I’m not good enough, lost, empty ... God has given me so much hope and faith in my life, knowing he is looking out for me in every way.
I had the great pleasure of asking Pastor Ian to baptise me in jail as Ian was sent to me that day by God. Wherever you are in life and however low or down you feel, please remember God loves you so much. Have hope and faith in him and he will love you like his own child. Don’t give up on life, he’s changed my life for ever.
Be blessed. Amen. David B
