HEBREWS: GOD’S FINAL WORD - HIS SON
 Rev. Ian Moore
EDITOR
The central message of Hebrews is contemporary; the same danger Jewish Christians faced 2,000 years ago abounds today.
Is it possible for our faith to be both profound and simple? I believe so, Jesus said, “Truly I tell you, unless you change and become like little children, you will never enter the kingdom of heaven” (Matthew 18:3). The Sunday School child who answered every question with “Jesus”, ended up with top marks. Yes, it is simplistic, but Jesus really is the answer! Hallelujah!
With every blessing. Ian Moore
Without knowledge and devotion to Christ, our faith and zeal will fall away. In response the writer of Hebrews elevates Jesus, making clear that He is the fulfilment of the law and the prophets, indeed the fulfilment of all things. Paul Oakley’s beautiful worship song sums it up, “It’s all about you, Jesus”. Amen and amen!
Unashamedly, Hebrews declares Jesus to be fully God and fully man. He is the creator and the sustainer of all creation. He is the eternal high priest, sympathising with our weaknesses while offering himself as the perfect sacrifice for our sin. Jesus is superior to angels, to Moses, to the Mosaic covenant, to the earthly tabernacle, and to the priesthood.
Because of sin all of humanity faces eternal judgment. Thankfully, it is faith alone that pleases God, having ongoing confidence in the unseen realities of his promises. Such faith produces the pathway to salvation and perseverance in the face of trials, as we joyfully await the soon return of Jesus.
