THIS WEEK’S BIBLE INSIGHTS ARE BY:
Abi Figueros and are based on Hebrews 12 (NIV)
IF YOU WOULD LIKE TO READ MORE ON THIS WEEK’S MAJOR THEME:
 Genesis 25 and Exodus 1-4
1 Therefore, since we are surrounded by such a great cloud of witnesses, let us throw off everything that hinders and the sin that so easily entangles. And let us run with perseverance the race marked out for us, 2 fixing our eyes on Jesus, the pioneer and perfecter of faith. For the joy set before him he endured the cross, scorning its shame, and sat down at the right hand of the throne of God. 3 Consider him who endured such opposition from sinners, so that you will not grow weary and lose heart.
4 In your struggle against sin, you have not yet resisted to the point of shedding your blood. 5 And have you completely
forgotten this word of encouragement that addresses you as a father addresses his son? It says, “My son, do not make light of the Lord’s discipline, and do not lose heart when he rebukes you, 6 because the Lord disciplines the one he loves, and he chastens everyone he accepts as his son.”
7 Endure hardship as discipline; God is treating you as his children. For what children are not disciplined by their father? 8 If you are not disciplined – and everyone undergoes discipline –
then you are not legitimate, not true sons and daughters at all.
Sunday Nov 10 - Motivation from heroes of the faith!
Since we are surrounded by such a great cloud of witnesses... let us run...
Hebrews 12:1
Have you ever had a hero? Someone you looked up to as an inspiration in your life? The success of others can be a hugely motivating factor for what we ourselves consider possible to achieve.
In the previous chapter 11, we read the most incredible description of a ‘great cloud of witnesses’. Historical, faith-filled people who set amazing precedents for what lives lived for God can really look like! With that heroic inspiration in mind we are then told to run! Run with perseverance! Run with focus! Run like you’re in the most important race of your life! Run –
throwing off anything that holds you back! This is motivation! You and I can do it too!! Remembering the rich history of those who have lived this journey of faith before us is
the inspiration to keep going. Our spiritual ancestors bravely faced and fearlessly overcame huge challenges, and as they did so they saw the miraculous depth of God’s blessing and faithfulness.
Consider the areas of your faith journey where you have felt like giving up, and then remember that all those heroes of the faith also experienced that feeling. Allow the Lord to motivate you to keep going by reminding you of all the heroes who have run before you.

Jesus, thank you that so many have done this before me. Help me today, to get up and run again, following in the footsteps of my spiritual family, trusting in your strength and fixing my eyes on you. Amen.
