 Mission to Prisons
Be encouraged by Nicholas’ testimony shared on the morning of his baptism, January 2025 in HMP Chelmsford:
I would like to start by saying that my past has possibly been no different from many of you here today, filled with anger, greed, corruption and lies. Unfortunately, I lived a life of breaking laws to get what I wanted in a quick and easy way. Selling drugs also led me to using them daily, this gave me a temporary fix on feeling high. Violence became the norm due to the life I lived, causing pain and suffering to those around me, with no real regard to the consequences of what I was doing to myself and my family. I wasn’t a nice man, without good morals at the best of times, let alone at my worst. I was consumed with hate and pain, I lost the love and peace I should have had in my heart, this led me to self- hate and depression.
That is until 9 months ago when I came to this prison at the lowest point in my life. At this point I prayed and I asked the Creator of this world to help me. I prayed to the Father of all creation; I needed a higher power to save me. I picked up the Bible, given to me by Chaplaincy, and prayed. I spoke the words of Psalm 5:1-3, “Listen to my words, Lord, consider my lament. Hear my cry for help, my King and my God, for to you I pray. In the morning, Lord, you hear my voice; in the morning I lay my requests before you and wait expectantly.” I knew the way I used to live my life wasn’t good, so with the help of the words of Jesus Christ, I started to think and feel better. I have peace; this has helped me to build back broken relationships with my family.
My faith in the Father, the Son and the Holy Spirit has been clear to me. I wake daily feeling free within these walls. The love I now have in my heart for Jesus Christ is a beautiful feeling, with the Holy Spirit guiding me each day to a better life.
I’m far from perfect but I will do my best to walk a better life thanks to the Holy Spirit inside me. To the Father, the Son and the Holy Spirit, I thank you for helping me start this new chapter of my life. Amen.
Please continue to pray for a move of the Holy Spirit in the lives of the 86,000 men and women held in custody throughout prisons in the UK.
