Executive Officer’s Report
Through 2019 we continued to work on school engagement, industry engagement and partnerships.
This report brings you stories and information on our events and activities, and here I would like to
mention a few highlights.
The Continuum of Need tool is making steady progress as schools and agencies make use of it to
identify and support vulnerable students and families. Schools are finding that although it takes time
to map students on the Continuum, the benefits of being able to identify and target assistance can be
profound. Student attendance and engagement can improve when needs are addressed.
Campaspe Youth Partnerships continued its practice of collaboration and saw us able to offer a “suite
of programs” to help with student engagement. This was the vision from the commencement of Youth
Partnerships and it is satisfying to see where we are now, and continue adding to the choices on offer.
The year began with a number of new principals at the participating schools, so we worked to bring them
“up to speed” with the functions of the Partnerships.
The news that a headspace was being considered for this area was met with some excitement. We
shared information to schools and asked for their support in lobbying for a local headspace. Schools
swiftly responded with letters of support. Funding was confirmed, and work has commenced on selecting
a provider to deliver headspace for Campaspe and Southern Riverina.
The National Youth Commission into Youth Employment and Transitions conducted hearings across
Australia and asked for CCLLEN assistance to hold a hearing in Echuca Moama. We sourced a venue,
approached stakeholders to present to the hearing and set up focus groups.
Through a partnership with Campaspe Shire Council and Loddon Campaspe Regional Partnership on
the “Voice of Our Youth” project, we were able to comprehensively reach a large number of young
people across Campaspe and hear their Voice. The report will be completed in 2020 and we intend to
bring that back to the young people and tell them how their Voice will be used in making change and
advising the Victorian Government.
We see a bright future through collaboration and having young people’s voice and input and them being
part of the solution. We are talking to young people in this community and there are so many passionate
and awesome ones around us who want to make a difference, who want to learn and to make a positive
change in the world. If you spend some time with these young people, you’re thinking that the future is
in good hands.
Our thanks to our partners and stakeholders for their support, input and collaboration. I wish to personally
thank the CCLLEN Board for their time, advice and expertise. And I thank the CCLLEN staff for their
outstanding work, commitment, professionalism, project management and sense of humour.
