 ABBERLEY ADVENTURES
4
     Drama, Music and Chapel
Thanks to Mr Dunham, Mrs Eynon and Mrs Austin, our Music and Drama has continued to flourish this term despite the limitations imposed by Covid. Our Performance Showcases have maintained their usual excellent standard and parents have been able to enjoy these virtually. Children have acted, danced, played instruments and performed superbly.
Music Practice
We are hoping to restart music practice in school for day pupils in the new year. Mr Dunham will be in touch before the start of term to get an understanding of which children might be interested.
Performances
We will follow guidelines closely but it is likely that performances next term will remain virtual. Please bear with us and hopefully things will change for the Summer.
We’ve had some wonderful Chapel services where we have been able to enjoy the sound of our Senior Singers. Lieutenant Colonel Moran spoke at our Remembrance service on Sunday 8th November, the choir sang beautifully and we heard poignant readings. We gathered by The Clock Tower at 11am on 11th to commemorate Armistice day. The entire school were
present in an extremely moving service where we heard the names of Old Abberlian boys who gave their lives during both world wars. We heard some beautiful readings and the Last Post was played by Harry Angell-James before we maintained 4 a respectful two-minute silence. I was particularly proud of the Nursery children for managing to stay quiet. Well done!
Mr Alastair Chirnside from Harrow spoke superbly at our memorable Candlelit Christingle Service. The Chapel looked stunning bathed in candlelight and the singing was incredibly moving. All those present made a Christingle before writing a wish or prayer on a star and hanging it on the Christmas Tree.
We all enjoyed the Removes Play, C.H.R.I.S.T.M.A.S spells Christmas. Again, it was a shame that parents couldn’t come in to watch but I hope you received the link and managed to watch it at home. It took a lot of work to film the various scenes and put it together and my thanks go to Mrs Eynon for her work with the actors and to Mr Dunham for editing the final version.
The Pre-Prep worked hard to rehearse and perform a wonderful Pre-Prep Nativity Play in the Ashton Hall. Again, this had to be watched on a screen by many but I do hope you all enjoyed it as much as I did. Well done to the Pre-Prep and to Mrs Eynon for all her hard work.
