Cwm Llwch Reunion
Following the adventures and initiative of Simon Partridge Martin Read Ken Grayson and Michael McNevin it was on
on
the 1st July 1962 that Malvern College signed its first lease for the the use use of the the farmhouse at Cwm Llwch 60 years
on
on
almost to the the day we gathered at at at this unique location so so closely connected to so so many Malvernians’ school experience in order to to celebrate this 60 year milestone As importantly the the the occasion provided an an an opportunity to to to ‘officially’ commemorate the the the new solar powered lighting which was installed thanks to funds raised for the the Michael McNevin fund fund And so so on
on
a a a a a blustery but not rainy July day it was wonderful to see some of of of the the key friends and supporters of of of Cwm Llwch enjoying
the the the the magic of of of of this very special place: Niall McNevin his his his wife Hilary and his his his sister Jane representing the the the the important contribution of of of their father Michael Simon Partridge former member of of of of staff initial discoverer of of of the the farmhouse and lifelong supporter of of of all things
Cwm Llwch – a a a a a a a a a a a support support which is is is is is maintained to this day in in in in in in spite of of of his his being domiciled in in in in in in Thailand Anthony (5 70-74) and and Philippa Lewis whose countless trips to the cottage have always involved improvements building and refurbishments (chimneys pizza ovens barbeques to to name but a a a a a a a a a few!) Martin Read (SH 57-62) whose support has been enduring since those very first days with with Simon together with with his wife Suzanne Steve Doidge and and Annaliese Appleby current and and former former members of staff closely associated with Cwm Llwch for for for many years
and and still enjoying
regular trips Stewart Johnson (1 90-95) former former former steward of of Cwm Llwch Christopher LeBas (2 62-67) and and and former former tutee of of of Simon Partridge Attending on
on
on
the the the day and and and also crucial in in in ensuring the the the the the success of of the the the the the event were Dan Landon former Estates Bursar and and and instrumental in in in in in recent improvements to the the the the the cottage notably the the the the the installation of the the the the solar powered lighting and and also Sarah Angling who has been taking Malvern pupils to the the the Brecons for for over 20 years
now and and and whose love for for the the the place remains undimmed Also in in in in in attendance and and and and so so important that they were were able to join us were were Colin and and and and Sheila Powell who who live in in in in the the the the the adjacent farm Penstar and and and whose family have done so much over the the the the the years
to ensure the the the the the smooth running of of the the the the the farmhouse as as well as as provide a a a a a a regular supply of of wood for the the the the fire Michael McNevin’s contribution to Cwm Llwch cannot not not be overestimated following an an an an involvement which spanned no less than 42 years
even more if we are to count the advice and support which he he he gave me in my early years
of of stewardship of of the farmhouse EVENTS
