                                                 Mental health
Rogers Theatre
A fortnight ago, Malvern College hosted our Annual Pastoral Conference to promote mental health in conjunction with the Anna Freud Foundation. This was open to teachers and pupils from schools in Worcestershire and neighbouring counties and was organised by Mr Tom Newman, our Deputy Designated Safeguarding Lead. We recognise how important mental health is in our young people and promote strategies of how best to deal with issues which impact upon our own pupils and those of other schools. Our Thrive Team at Malvern consists of staff and pupils and evaluates ways of assisting pupils with a range of difficulties which they may encounter. Peer Mentors and others in the Houses do likewise.
We are thrilled that the Rogers Theatre has reopened and has received extremely favourable comments from pupils, staff and parents. Our thespians are very pleased to be working in such a professionally styled theatre environment and our technicians are enjoying being ‘hands on’ with state-of-the-art theatre engineering systems, lighting and audio visual equipment. The aim of the project was an attempt at achieving a sensitive fusion of the old and the new – the creation of an ultra-modern, multi-purpose, highly flexible studio space alongside an existing theatre auditorium which is now fully equipped with 21st Century stage engineering and audience comforts. The studio/foyer is principally a teaching space for practical and theoretical academic drama lessons, and is the venue for our dance activity too, as well as providing additional rehearsal space for co-curricular drama activities. It can also be utilised as a meeting/conference room, a venue for drinks receptions and other such informal gatherings. As one enters the main auditorium to locate one’s seat, one glances up at the stained glass windows which feature the College crest and motto – Sapiens qui Prospicit - which was a feature of the original Edwardian building hidden from view for many years but is now a prominent feature of the Rogers Theatre. We hope to see as many of you as possible at our forthcoming programme of drama productions.
The Pringle Trophy
Nine Royal Marine Cadets competed for the prestigious Pringle Trophy against cadets from twenty other CCF contingents from all over the country. They engaged in a range of military skills and tasks, including contact drills, observation, first aid and overall leadership. Our team was superbly captained by Harry Myddelton and put up an excellent display in all the activities, across the board, without winning the trophy itself. Well done to all of our pupils!
