World Book Day
The Library and English department were delighted to host Young Adult author Holly Holly Race for World Book Day
Holly Holly has written a a a a a trilogy of fantasy novels Midnight’s Twins being the first and these are set in two worlds - the the the the one as we know it and the the the the other accessed via a a a a a a portal where selected humans learn to be knights who save dreamers from nightmares Holly provided a a a series of workshops throughout the day: “Making a a a a a Modern Myth” challenged pupils to choose a a a a a character from Roman mythology and create a a a a a a a storyline using a a a a a a a particular genre (think Romulus and Remus but in in in a a competitive sports setting for example) “Making a a a a a a Career From Stories” followed Holly’s particular career path from Script Reader to Development Executive and working on
scripts for projects as as varied as as Shaun the Sheep to Dickensian to full-time writer “Writing for the Screen” engaged pupils with with the process of writing with with a a a visual medium in in in mind – a a a very particular skill! Holly emphasised the tenacity and determination needed to succeed in in in in in the world of writing while maintaining pupils’ enthusiasm for the creative process A A Q&A session was followed by book signing for anyone who wanted to purchase Holly’s first novel The day was thoroughly enjoyed by pupils staff and author alike Sharon Collett | Librarian
The Great Malvern Literary Treasure Hunt
In their final meeting of the the the Lent Term and as a a a a a farewell to the the the long-standing Upper Sixth members the Malvern College Literary Society (Lit Soc) held a a a a a special event called “The Great Malvern Literary Treasure Hunt” It involved going around the Town visiting the various various new and and second-hand bookshops to answer various various literary questions and complete various tasks within a a a a a time limit Could they find the the the Local History section fin in the the the Coop Bookshops? Which royal biography was marked at half price in W W H Smith? Which writer lived and wrote their famous novel in the the former Colonial Hotel? They also had to find and buy a a a a a book for their team partner for no more that £3 After returning from their mission members then discussed their results over the the the traditional Lit Soc fare: tea coffee and cake!
