THE MALVERNIAN
FY Trip to the Forest of Dean continued...
Scaling new heights and testing their fears, students climbed the rock face taking turns to belay for each other and working to guide each other to hand and foot holes on the rock face.
These belaying skills were then later put to good use again as part of a crate stacking activity. Once again in harnesses, two team members had to build a tower of crates whilst standing on top of an increasingly unstable stack. The art of passing the crates up and securing them in place posed a challenge for some of the groups but the record of 25 crates was achieved.
Back on solid ground, they took to two wheels, mountain biking around the Forest of of Dean, taking in the beautiful scenery, navigating the rough terrain and testing their bike handling skills..
A firm favourite was bush craft. Students were taught the art of making a shelter and building a fire before being given the chance to make bread and s’mores which were toasted over their open fires.
After much fun and a lot of laughter everyone returned to College ready to rest and recharge over the Leave Out weekend. A great trip was had by all with new friendships made and new skills acquired.
