Senior Schools 18th November
One of our jobs as an independent prep school is to prepare children for the right senior school for them – wherever that may be. We pride ourselves on our ability to help and steer parents towards choosing the most appropriate school and we send our children on to a wide range of senior schools each year. Deciding on the right senior school can be a minefield for parents. I always start off by advising they narrow down the search by looking at the ‘bigger picture’ first – how academic is your child? Do you want them to board or be a day pupil? Do you want single sex or coeducation? How far away from home are you willing for your child to be? Even when the search has been narrowed down, there are confusing decisions to make. Should they attempt a scholarship? Which house should we choose? Can we apply for a Bursary? How do we prepare for assessments and interviews?
We are here to help guide you through these considerations. To help parents, we got together six very impressive Heads from schools that we often send children on to. Heads from Malvern College, Shrewsbury School, Cheltenham College, Tudor Hall, King’s Worcester and Clifton College gathered to give advice to parents and to field questions. The evening was a huge success.
If any parents would like to discuss senior school choices then please get in touch with the School Office and we can arrange for you to have an appointment
Christmas Fair 27th Nov
On Saturday 27th November, the Front Hall and our Dining Rooms were transformed into a magical Christmas-themed winter fair. We had stallholders from the local community and guests enjoyed listening to Christmas music, eating delicious food and shopping for unique Christmas gifts. We had a huge number of visitors from Abberley Hall families and from the wider community and we will be hosting this event again next year!
Clay Pigeon Shooting
On Sunday 28th November we held our Inaugural Abberley Hall Clay Pigeon Shooting Competition. The event was a massive success and there has been demand for another event to take place in the Spring and to make these two events annual fixtures in the Abberley diary. Our 30 participants began the day with bacon sandwiches at Park Farm shooting ground before we set off in teams to shoot at five different stands. After an excellent morning of shooting, we retired to the Abberley Front Hall for a delicious lunch by our roaring log fire followed by prize giving. Arthur Myrddin-Evans won the overall competition and John Heatley won the prize for the highest scoring pupil. Well done, John! We will soon be in receipt of The Heatley Cup for Clay Pigeon Shooting and this will be awarded to the top shot every year. Clay Pigeon Shooting is a great sport, our children love it and we look forward to seeing this club going from strength to strength.
Christmas Wreath Making
As well as the busy schedule of end of term Christmas events for pupils, we organized a Christmas Wreath Making Workshop for parents on the evening of 6th December. The event was well-attended and they ended up producing a fantastic array of beautiful wreaths. The Hall smelled gorgeous too.
