DEVELOPMENT IMPACT REPORT
Spotlight on named
awards
Through the generous support of individual donors, the Malvernian Society provides a number of named awards. In this new feature, we aim to focus on one award, the associated donor, what has inspired them to set up their support and how it is helping Malvern College.
Richard Nieper Art Scholarship
Richard Nieper OM studied at Malvern College between 1983 and 1988. He loved working in the Art studio and Design workshop as both fed his passion for creativity and problem solving. A successful artist and designer, sadly Richard died of epilepsy at a young age. As a tribute to his love of the Arts, the scholarship was set up by the Nieper family through David Nieper Ltd. to offer opportunities for other likeminded, talented pupils and enable them to flourish. (David Nieper is a designer, manufacturer and retailer of fine ladies’ fashion, based in Derbyshire and one of only very few clothes manufacturers in the UK.)
The generous scholarship is offered to pupils joining the College in the Lower Sixth who can demonstrate an exceptional ability within Art or Design. Not only should their work show off their talents, but they should be confident with speaking and presenting their work to others. It will offer them the chance to pursue their passion at Malvern College during their Sixth Form studies with the aim of them continuing to study the subject in Higher Education.
Nieper Scholars will be expected to perform at the highest level and act as a role model for other students in the College, as well as be an ambassador for the faculty. They will have access to a huge range of resources and media to develop their work and be supported by specialist practitioners from fields such as Painting, Printmaking, Photography, Sculpture, Ceramics and Textiles.
The Richard Nieper Art Scholarship is means- tested to enable pupils who might not otherwise be able to attend Malvern College to study here. We are extremely grateful to the Nieper family for making this award possible.
