A Very Warm Welcome to No.1
I very much hope you enjoying reading through this handbook prior to joining Malvern College and in the first couple of weeks
of your first term. It will give you a good impression of what life will be like when you join this boarding house in September, and it also contains information that you will hopefully find useful as you settle in. House No.1 is a vibrant, supportive and happy community and you will be sure to find lots of people who will want to help you settle in when you arrive. In addition to myself, there will be two House Assistants (Miss Hepworth and Mrs Harvey), as well
as all the tutors, including the Deputy Housemaster.
I have been House No.1’s Housemaster since September 2019 and absolutely love it! There’s a relaxed feel to the place, yet there is
a strong drive to achieve success - both as a House and from the individual boys. Indeed, it is an extremely successful community
in many ways, and I am sure you will add positively to the culture. We also have a lot of fun when we can and I am very fortunate to have a wonderful and supportive House team - people who truly enjoy the work they do and the difference they make. I am married to Joanna and we have two daughters (Darcy and Jemima) and a lively Jack Russell Terrier called Willoughby. I teach Economics and also coach rugby and cricket. I love many sports but don’t have
as much time to play as I once did. These days, I spend most of
my free time either with my family or riding my road bike around the fantastic Worcestershire and Herefordshire countryside. I
also enjoy swimming, running and taking the dog for walks in the beautiful Malvern Hills. One of my greatest personal achievements has been to climb to the summit of Mont Blanc, and I hope to go one better than that in the next few years.
I am sure you will have a tremendous time in House No.1. You will be given every opportunity to fulfill your potential in whatever you pursue, and make some lifelong-friendships along the way. Time really passes quickly in this environment, so I do encourage you to make the most of your time at Malvern College by getting involved with many of the co-curricular and super-curricular activities on off to you, in addition to your studies.
I am looking forward to meeting you in September and really hope you have a great summer holiday.
