FY and Remove
Cross Curricular Project 2022
From the 27 - 29 June, the Foundation Year and some Remove pupils were given a ‘The Apprentice’ type challenge to create a new brand of cosmetics products. The launch of the project started with an inspiring insight into starting up a cosmetic brand with a presentation from Vicky Charlesworth (OM No.4). Vicky is the founder of the multiple award winning ‘JAYA’ skin care business, that she spent the last four years developing. This gave the pupils clear guidance on what they would need to consider for their brand and business plan.
This was followed by Mrs Brighton-Goedhals’ analysis of advertising campaigns, Mr Hutsby’s examination of branding and Mr Young’s exploration of the pitfalls of not checking other language translations of product names.
Working in teams and dividing out tasks between themselves, pupils needed to develop the brand image, packaging, promotional video, a poster for advertising in another country, a marketing strategy, point of sale display and finances for their business plan. Following their first strategy meeting based in Design & Technology, pupils headed for the Chemistry Department to create and manufacture their lip balms and skin creams.
During the rest of the project, the teams would visit the Modern Foreign Languages Department for help with generating their poster into other languages, whilst the Mathematics Department supported pupils in working out the costing for their products, as part of their business plan.
The project ended with each team presenting their work to the other groups and members of the Senior Leadership Team. The winners from each of the groups were then selected to give the final presentation in front of all the groups, and Senior Leadership team, in the Lewis Lecture Theatre.
Our congratulations go to the winning team ‘Erini’- Charlotte Boyle, Harry Russell, Max Wilson, Emilia Bonas and Henry Dyer - who impressed the judges with the professionalism of the presentation and financial understanding. There were each presented with a prize for their hard work and effort by the Headmaster.
