On Sunday 24 April the Rt Revd Dr John Inge, Bishop of Worcester, confirmed 19 pupils and youngsters from the parish of Great Malvern in the College Chapel. Some of those being confirmed had waited over 2 years since their preparation so that there were no Covid restrictions limiting the numbers of family and friends attending. In a joyful and memorable occasion, the Bishop spoke of the importance of developing our faith and recognising our doubts as we journey through life using Thomas, the disciple, as an example. A large congregation enjoyed an uplifting service which included a baptism as well as the confirmations. Thomas Pasquier and Mary Needham spoke about how their understanding of faith had developed through the preparation sessions. The Chamber Choir sang two anthems during the distribution of communion. The celebration continued after the service over afternoon tea in the Lyall foyer.
Ordination
On Sunday 3rd July Adam Wharton (Religious Studies teacher and former HouseM of No.1) was ordained in a wonderful service in Worcester Cathedral by the Bishop of Dudley. Adam will now continue his ministerial training as a curate based at the College and part of the chaplaincy team working with the College Chaplain, Revd David Ibbotson, and also serving at Great Malvern Priory working with the Vicar, Revd Rod Corke. There is a long and prayerful selection process to reach this point and it is no surprise to members of the College community who know him well, that Adam has responded to this calling and is now the Reverend Adam Wharton. We look forward to his ministry in the College and the wider community in Malvern.
