THE MALVERNIAN
Girls Cricket
The Senior Girls have had a good season. They had good wins against Bromsgrove and Malvern St James. Unfortunately their 20/20 cup run was ended by a strong Oundle team. Highlights of the season are 2 hat-tricks in one game by Chloe MacKellar and Bethan Manning, Heather Harris 50 not out vs Malvern St James and the team's 9-wicket victory vs Bromsgrove. We wish all the girls leaving the best for the future and look forward to more girls cricket next year.
The Junior girls have improved as the season has gone on. They have played some lovely cricket in fixtures against Kings and Clifton School. Some highlights of the season has been Martha Pile’s one handed catch at Clifton and the team performance vs Bromsgrove U15c Boys team where the girls won convincingly.
Athletics
In a summer term that has seen minimal disturbance in terms of weather, Malvern’s pupils have enjoyed the sun and progress afforded to them. Malvern had over 30 athletes represent the College at the District Championships, 18 of whom qualified for the County Athletics Championships. All those athletes competed with great energy, but special mentions go to Kipp Norbury (No.1), Brandon Zhu and Ethan Opini (No.9), and Issy Upjohn and Emma Youngs (both No.4) who medalled in their respective events. Brandon and Issy then qualified for the prestigious regional Mason Trophy Emily Kent (No.3) and Kipp should also be commended for the commitment and effort as recipients of the annual Athletics Prizes. With Sports Day on the penultimate day of term, we are hoping for a fantastic return of a day that has been lost since 2019.
Golf
A young and relatively inexperienced college golf team without their Captain Anna Wendelstadt (No.6) and one or two seniors who were tied up with revision for examinations, made the trip to Sunningdale GC, one of the finest inland golf courses in the UK for their annual fixture versus the OMGS.
OMGS host, Richard Thompson, arranged just about the perfect day – apart from the result! In a very close match, the College lost 2.5 to 0.5.
First pair of Matt Vickers & Shyam Sira lost in a thrilling match that went all the way to the 18th green losing 1 down.
Joe Stocks and Euan MacKellar halved their match. James Hoyland and Emily Campbell lost theirs.
The OMGS were represented by Lionel Godfrey (6.67), Andrew Hartley (SH.76), Matt Hind (5.15), Simon Hooper (1.98), Severin Lubke (1.07) and Richard Thompson (4.60).
