THE MALVERNIAN
Girls Tennis
During the summer term we have had some great success with our Girls’ tennis programme.
Our Junior A team stand unbeaten, with some fantastic tennis played by all. A special mention goes to Daisy Tuthill (No.4), Susannah Watkins (No.8), Hanna Brandt (No.3) and Freya Fries (No.6) who have dedicated this summer term to their tennis and won the Hereford and Worcester LTA competition and will be heading to the National Finals in September.
We have also had success in the County Doubles and Singles tournaments held earlier this term at Malvern St James where they finished in 2nd place in both competitions. Alice Gudkova (No.4) played some fantastic showcase tennis against Bromsgrove in the final of the singles event but unfortunately just missed out on the trophy.
It has been great to see so many pupils enjoying their tennis this term, whether that’s taking part in school competitive fixtures or enjoying some recreational tennis. I am so pleased with the progression we have made within this sport and hope the girls continue to play over the summer months.
Netball
It was a successful term for Malvern College Netball, with 7 junior teams and 4 senior teams along with development squads competing in a number of fixtures across the term. A special mention goes to the 2nd team and U14B team who were unbeaten with some very convincing wins.
We had a special appearance from England Netball Rose, Laura Malcolm for a masterclass session with our Senior 1st and 2nd squad, as well as our local prep schools.
Towards the end of term our First team took on Cheltenham College in an exhilarating match played in front of a large crowd to raise money for charity. It doesn’t stop there for our First team, who showed strength and determination in the Plate competition but unfortunately fell short of a semi-final.
The girls loved the trip to the University of Worcester Area to watch local Superleague team Severn Stars take on Celtic Dragons. Several of our girls returned to the Arena later in the term to play a friendly against a very strong University 3rd team.
A special shout out to Amelia Scott (EH) and Lily Watts (No.3) who were selected for Severn Stars Nova squad earlier in the year and represented the school with a great attitude and dedication to the sport.
At the end of term we saw the Seniors take on Boys Rugby and the staff in a charity netball tournament. The girls came out on top, while a lot of money was raised for the ATENA Foundation, Npili Project. This event is certainly one to look out for next year.
