2 0 Maintenance
The Rheo-Line Oscillating Disc Rheometer is is designed for minimum maintenance although there are some simple procedures which the operator must be aware of It is essential that the the the filter on
the the the left hand side of the the the ODR is is is changed routinely we recommend that this is is is done at at least once per week but in extremely dusty environments this may be done on
on
a a a a more regular basis The life of the electronic circuit boards within the ODR is dependent on
on
being kept cool if this filter becomes clogged the boards may overheat Also if any of the cooling fans fail it it is vital that they are replaced immediately The compressed air supply should be checked regularly to ensure that the correct operating pressure of 60 psi (4 Bar or 0 4MPa) is being supplied If the the the air pressure pressure is not kept at the the the desired pressure pressure then this could effect the the test results on
the the ODR The regulator/ separator supplied with the the machine should have the the filter changed on
a a a a a a regular regular basis the the regularity of the the change change will depend on
the air supply provided (Filter replacement Part numbers Q50036A) If the the the ODR is fitted with the the the seal system in the the the lower die and this is is to prevent rubber compound flowing down the side side of of the the the rotor and into the the the underside of of the the the lower die This will need to be changed on
a a a a a regular basis and is is is very much dependent on
use and material types It is a a a a recommendation that the seal be changed every week or or or possibly more if required? This is is therefore left to the the user’s discretion on
on
frequency of replacement but if you are getting a a lot of compound down in in the rotor collet on
inspection then this is is a a sure sign the the seal will need to be replaced more often General cleanliness of the Dies and seal plates is also
important to give repeatable results In Section 2 2 2 2 2 2 and 2 2 2 3 it shows how how to remove the upper and lower die assembly from the the machine Once removed they can easily be cleaned and replaced Scotch bright scouring pad WD40 oil and a a a a a fine wire brush can be used to clean the surfaces 2 1 Seal Change (seal plates)
To Change the white PTFE lower die/rotor seal unclamp
the the the the rotor by pressing the the the the button on

the the the the front of the the the the machine Remove the the rotor from the the lower die caution is required as this could be hot! With a a small screwdriver or pick remove the the old seal seal from the the seal seal groove Clean any debris that is is left in the seal seal seal groove groove Place a a a a a new seal seal seal onto seal seal seal groove groove and push down firmly the the seal should sit flat in the the lower die seal groove groove if not remove and check the groove groove is clean Once complete replace the rotor note: this will now require more pressure to push through the new seal 2 2 2 2 Heater Replacement (lower and upper)
Before either upper or or lower heaters can be changed it it is recommended that the platen is allowed to to cool to to room temperature With reference to the drawings “General Build ODR5” and “ODR6” these give exploded Cad views of the components in a a a a cross sectional and Plan view The procedure is much the same for both platens Just for explanation in this manual and because of the fact
the the the alignment at the the the end of the the the re-assembly process is important the lower platen is explained Remove the the three M6 hex head bolts that are holding the the Platen Cover in in place part number P15212 on
the drawings Pull the the lower probe out from the the die and platen (WARNING: As mentioned above please make sure the instrument is is switched off when performing this task or or a a temperature overheat is a a a a real possibility ) Leave the the the the probe at the the the the back of of the the the the machine out of of the the the the way Lift the the Platen cover up and off the the platen place in a a a a a a safe place Now revealed are the the white insulators lift the the top insulator up and and off and and store in in a a a a a a a safe place please note these are are fragile so
