Insurance
The College do not offer pupils any insurance for personal effects. Please make it clear to pupils that possessions left here over holidays etc. (regardless of how well they are secured) are not covered by any form of insurance. If they wish to have insurance, this must be done under their parents’ home contents insurance and it must be made clear that they take their items away to school.
Library (Grundy)
Pupils may work in the Library during independent study periods and Hall time. Lower School pupils will be allocated supervised study periods (in a classroom, not in House). If they wish to go to the library for Hall, Lower School pupils need a chit. The library take a register and email it to the Houses at the end of Hall.
Medical Centre
The Medical Centre provides a triage and first aid care every weekday morning from 7.45am – 8.15am and GP Surgery from 8.15am – 9.30amAll boarders are registered with the school doctor. The Medical Centre is happy to give advice to Houses on medical matters. Close liaison should take place so that transfer of pastoral information is efficient. The Med Centre oversee
the contents of the homely remedies locked in the Houses. Pupils that wish to see the doctor should either have pre-arranged appointments or arrive at the Med Centre before 8.10am. See the notice in appendix twenty-five relating to use of medical centre for emergency procedures.
Medicines
See the Medical Care Policy on the College website. All medication should be kept locked away by the House, unless the pupil has been deemed to be Gillick-competent by the Medical Centre in which case the House will be advised by the Medical Centre. The Nurse Manager will assess, in conjunction with the House staff, whether or not the pupil is capable of self-medicating safely. Pupils who are allowed to self-administer must keep their medication locked away in their own rooms. If they do not do this they lose the right to self-medicate. All medication that is given by the House needs to be recorded on the individual pupil’s record
as well as in a daily record of all medication given. When this is pain relief, this must be done on the paracetamol and ibuprofen medical database. Paracetamol and ibuprofen should be tallied up too and the actual number left compared with how many have been issued. Parents are asked to inform the Medical Centre and House of any medicines that are issued by other doctors. Controlled medication, such as concerta, needs to be double-signed, i.e. it can only be issued with two staff present and needs to be locked away in double-locked box (i.e, a locked box within a locked cupboard). The Medical Centre will advise whether
or not such precautions are necessary for each type of medication – please ask them if you are unsure. The Staff Handbook
also provides more detailed guidelines on issuing medication. There are forms that need to be completed if pupils are self- medicating – see Appendix 30. These forms are signed by the Medical Centre member of staff and the House staff to confirm that a risk assessment has been completed to assess that the pupils can self-medicate. If pupils are taking long-term medication, the quantities taken should be checked off each week by one of the House Assistants to ensure that pupils are managing their medication appropriately.
Missing Child Procedure
See the Missing Child Policy. All pupils are registered five times per day at 8.10 am, 1.45 pm, 6.30 pm, during Hall and at bedtime. During the day staff check attendance in each lesson; if a pupil is absent and the register on ISAMS does not explain why, the House is informed. If the pupil is missing registration or a roll call, the Assistants or HouseM must attempt to locate the pupil immediately. Day pupils’ parents should be contacted by 8.30am if the pupil does not appear for morning registration. All registers must be corrected once the pupil has been located. Refer to the Policy for further procedures.
