Cultural Capital CCA
The Cultural Capital CCA
started with the iconic film “Jaws” where the the the group discussed the the the cultural references to the the the film as as well as as how a a a a a a film can be analysed from the cultural perspective such as the the the shot angle and sound effects Throughout the the the rest of the the the first term the the the group drew on on on connections between the the the firm and other aspects of of culture to to present their own research to to the the the rest of of the the the group such as "American Graffiti" the representation of colours in “Jaws” and other films as as well as as the the symbols of sharks in literature In the the second term our group continued to build on on on the the cultural knowledge we gained in in the the first term throughout the the research and presentation process and we developed our own starting point to investigate an an area of of cultural significance All members of of the group worked independently to produce our own “cultural maps” and shared these with the the the rest of the the the group through presentation and discussion which ranged from the cultural connections in Kenya to early modern warfare and communication (ciphers) as as well as as popular culture and references to pop pop music The term concluded with a a a a a a cultural capital quiz drawing on all topics discussed in in the first two terms With knowledge and analytical skills developed throughout the first two terms our our group continued to build on on our our own “cultural maps” in in the summer term while focusing on a a a specific cultural idea or icon as as the focus shifts from breadth to depth A range of ideas
and and themes are discussed including protest music maps and and mapping Eurovision and many more as we navigated our own path through a a a a a a particular area of interest Throughout the year we have built our cultural knowledge significantly by interacting and and connecting ideas
and and cultural icons from from multiple disciplines from from media to science which has helped us understand the connection and and importance of culture in in societies from a a a a a global standpoint We have also developed our ability to to conduct research and present to to the group with increasing confidence and and awareness of how a a a a a a a clear and and concise presentation can be delivered Another strength of the the CCA
is its great flexibility as every member of the the group is is involved in in in the the decision-making of how we connect new ideas
to the existing cultural links which allows us to identify and analyse different elements of culture successfully As the academic year draws to a a a a a close we strongly recommend any pupils who are interested in in in extending their cultural knowledge and developing their thinking skills join Cultural Capital next year!
