Shuaichu Pan presents us with a a a a a a paradox worth pondering about through his talk "Provably Unprovable - Gödel's Incompleteness Theorem " Packed full of of ideas and even a a a a a touch of of history this talk is is sure to pique the the the interest of any mathematicians out there! His talk was followed by many interesting questions from a a a a a large audience of L6 pupils and staff He answered these knowledgeably showing a a very broad knowledge of his chosen subject Liv Cascorbi presented a a a a a talk on “Apophis-the asteroid that will not hit Earth (or at least not very soon” The talk informed about general facts such as as passing Earth in in 2029 with a a a a a a very close distance which will be be less than a a a a tenth from the distance between Earth and and Moon Then she went deeper into the the topic and and explained the the risk of of it it it hitting Earth with Apophis being classified as as one of of the Literary Society
most dangerous asteroids but this has been ruled out after later observations This happened as as the path of an asteroid becomes more more more accurate the the more more more data is available Furthermore NASA established the PDCO (Planetary Defence Coordination Office) to detect potentially hazardous objects This refers to all all asteroids and comets whose orbits are predicted to be within 8 million kilometres distance from Earth Liv then showed how how the the path of an asteroid could be be calculated Apophis approach will be be valuable to to researchers as they will be able to to study its size and surface which may help to collect more information for for the explanation of the the formation of the the solar system David Ibbotson | College Chaplain
