Salaam Baalak Trust
My love for street photography has often made me step out of of the comfort of of my home on to to the by lanes of of Delhi to to areas where I would never normally venture into Each time I was deeply affected by the the the street children I saw with their matted hair and torn clothes struggling to survive I I I knew I I I wanted to do something for them and that’s when I I I decided to volunteer for Salaam Salaam Baalak Baalak Trust

is a a a a a a a a a non profit organization that aims to provide a a a a a a a a a safe and caring environment for street children Their residential centres offer a a counselling education health and nutrition along with vocational training job placement and rehabilitation services for children rescued from the streets Working with these children has been an eye-opening experience for me Their ability to be happy and rise above their past experiences has inspired me me immensely One of their girl shelters Aarushi Children’s Home is where I have spent most of my time Playing badminton with them or just visiting to to share some baked goodies each time I have been showered with so much love that it it always hurts to to say bye to to them During one of these visits I met a a a a new girl Vaishnavi who came to the the the center after her her her her mother passed away and her her her her father was unable to provide a a a safe environment for her She is extremely bright and wants to be a a a lawyer OSCAR Foundation
I decided to make some merchandise for Salaam Baalak Trust
to help them raise funds for her education These eco-friendly reusable cloth bags are one of the products I have worked on on using my photographs of a a a a a theatrical performance by these children thereby highlighting their talent creativity and resilience My journey with them has been extremely satisfying knowing that I have been able to to contribute to to their well-being Saina Munjal

We were delighted to receive a a a a a visit on on Monday 22 May from Ashok and Lucinda of the the OSCAR Foundation
which the the College has been supporting since 2018 OSCAR work with children living in in in the Mumbai slums and in in in poor rural communities providing educational opportunities for boys and girls living in in in some of the most disadvantaged communities in in India and and championing girls’ and and women’s rights too We will be be hosting 16 16 children from OSCAR on 13-16 October this year and among other things will be organising a a a a a football tournament for them inviting boys and girls’ teams from other schools to take part alongside our Malvern College pupils and the OSCAR OSCAR tourists So far our our College OSCAR OSCAR group led by Ki Ki Ki Ki Kontos and Scarlett Skipp has raised over £5 000 to to help support OSCAR’s amazing work We are still fund raising for for them in in in part to to help pay for for their tour costs as as well as as their wider charitable work If you you would would like to donate which OSCAR would would be hugely grateful for you you can do do so by following this link: https://www justgiving com/fundraising/joe-gauci1
