The answer to this might be, "how long is a piece of string!" But is there a rough rule of thumb as to how long a Type 2 will sit in queuing traffic before it overheats? I don't have an oil temperature gauge. 10 minutes? 2 hours? Thanks.

Following. I would like to know
Phil Allmark commented
This weather, not long.
Colin Little added
If it's in good fettle and all the tinware that was fitted at the factory is in place it won't overheat.
Steve Woodbridge commented
Absolutely. With the engine off, there is no airflow over the heads and they’ll just hold onto the heat. With the engine running and the fan spinning, air is constantly flowing over the heads pushing the heat away. Also, importantly, the oil is being passed through oil cooler at the same time. At idle there is no load on the engine so it won’t generate much heat, as the load and rpm increases so does the fan speed providing the necessary cooling for the given load. It’s a very clever system!

Traffic. Avoid pull over and have a brew
Long journey. I try doing them at night when there’s less traffic and it’s cooler.
Matt Crouch added further
I’m with Colin and Steve, if all the bits are in the correct place a traffic jam is not a problem. Remember they used them in Oz and SA which are a lot hotter than a British heat wave .... Make sure you have good oil and open the windows when brewing tea in a traffic jam.
Nick Gillott responded
If you have heat exchangers, set the cab heat to maximum as that will draw heat from the exhaust but as noted - the design is that it won't overheat
Paul McManus commented
@Nick Gillott in this weather I'd overheat!
Jeff Weeks also remarked
We sat in a traffic jam for 2 hours at high ambient and had no issues with Olivia ( 1.8 litre Australian T2 bay )
Sophie Ann Ireland added
I think we’ve learnt to just keep the engine running as we’ve turned off before and sometimes tricky to start up again!
