his Scholarship at Keble College Oxford where he he read French and German After Oxford Kenneth joined Unilever He married Audrey Rhodes in in in in in 1957 and and they had two children Nicholas and and Caroline They spent five years in in in in in in Bombay with Hindustan Unilever Unilever before returning to the UK in in in in in in in in 1962 Kenneth remained with Unilever Unilever subsequently joining Barker & Dobson and then Watneys where he he he was Marketing Director In the the 1980s Kenneth worked briefly for for Food from Britain promoting UK food exports and and then for for 20 years was President of the the the ISBA the the the body that represents brand owners and and and and advertisers working with governments and and and and the Advertising Standards Authority Kenneth lived in in Oxford enjoying good health until the last He loved to to travel to to ancient sites and and enjoyed music opera theatre and and and and art Kenneth always saw the the the good in others and and and was adored by his five grandchildren He died on 11th May 2023 aged 93 T ony was born in Clapham on on on 18th April 1931 His parents Raymond Newell
and and and Muriel Chandler performed regularly in in in shows and and and meant he he spent A the the summers of his his early life in in in in seaside resorts The winter season was spent at their home in in in in in Wimbledon with his his parents performing in in in the the West End Tony joined joined Malvern College at at the the time it was temporarily at at Harrow during World War
II and joined joined No 4 4 when the the College returned to Malvern in in in 1946 He He became
Head of House and and a a a a a a a a a School Prefect The biggest influence on his his school life were his his French and and and and and and German language teachers Roland Le Grand and and and and and Wilfrid Noyce and and and and and as as they had both been to to to King’s King’s College Cambridge it it was almost inevitable that he would go to to to King’s King’s to to to study modern languages in in due course On leaving King’s he accepted a a a a a a a a a job offer with S H Benson Ltd Overseas Department in in in in in in what was to to become a a a a a a a a a a a career in in in in in in the the advertising industry He moved to to Foote Cone and and Belding (FCB) and and started extensive travelling around the the world something that was to to become a a a a a a a a a a lifelong highlight After presenting a a a a a a a a report to to to the the Chairman on on the the company’s potential growth into Europe he he he he moved the the the family to to to Brussels to to to implement his recommendations He He lived there from 1966 until 2017 He He left FCB in 1972 to start his own consultancy ‘Arrow Communications’ For relaxation Tony became
a a a a a a a a guide for the Waterloo Battlefield in in in in Brussels He also loved gardening built a a a a a a a a a a a a a a a a large fleet of replica warships painted lead soldiers in in in in detail and built a a a a a a a a a a a a a a large castle broadly based on Goodrich He enjoyed cooking eating out and and food generally – cod’s roe Sainsbury’s breakfast sausage pork pies pies and and and Fray Bentos steak and and kidney pies pies not forgetting kippers! He is is is survived by his his three children from his his first marriage to to Joyce Perryman (Jonathan Christopher and and and Giles) who died in 1972 and and and and by his second wife Anne McKay and and and and their daughter (Alexandra) He died on on 18th April 2022
