On Christmas Day 1927 as as as Bridget’s mother Dorothy Mary Hall was about to to carve the the the turkey Bridget announced her her imminent arrival into the the the world hence the the first of her her middle names – Christian After a a a a childhood in in in Norfolk Bridget joined the Domestic Science House at Cheltenham Ladies’ College in in in 1944 to learn the the arts of which she she became such an accomplished practitioner Her first job after the the war was as as cook in in in No 4 4 where she met Malcolm They married in in in 1949 and in in in 1951 he he he he he became HouseM of No No 3 3 James Cooke who joined No No 3 3 in in 1958 wrote: ‘Stan and Bubbles as they were known by by countless Malvernians ran the the the the best house by by far at at the the the the time and I am not just talking about the the the the catering Bridget was the the the the perfect foil to Malcolm always happy and smiling’ After 15 years in in in in No 3 the the family moved to to Brackenhurst in in in in 1967 Malcolm became Second Master (Deputy Head to to to Donald Lindsay) and and retired in in 1976 The family then went to to New Zealand
for a a a a a a a a a a a a year where Malcolm taught at at Wanganui Collegiate and Christ Christ College Christchurch Malcolm died in in in 1988 leaving Bridget Bridget a a a a a a a a widow at the age of 60 Bridget Bridget Bridget adapted to to life on her own learning to to drive and and she travelled the world Bridget Bridget stayed in Brackenhurst for almost 35 more years and and and a a a a a a a a a a a a a great number of Old Malvernians College staff and and other friends were delightfully entertained there As for so many the the the the beginning of the the the the pandemic in in in in 2020 was was a a a a a a a a a a terrible blow it took away the the the the social life that was was so so important
to to to Bridget She spent hours on on on on the the the telephone but a a a a a a a a a a a poor substitute for the the the face-to-face contact that that she she thrived on on on on In October that that year year she she fell at at at home From then like so many of her friends in fin in in in their final years including Reg Farrar she moved to Perrins House Bridget was was a a a a a a a person who enjoyed the the company of people and and was was was curious about them and and concerned for their happiness Her greatest ability was was her phenomenal memory for peoples’ faces and and names Everyone treasured how she would remember them and and something about their life She died on 10th July 2022

& Son Ltd an an interiors firm based in in in Wales He served as as the the the president of of of the the the National Association Association of of of of Retail Furnishers chairman of of of of the the the the British Shops and and Stores Association Association liveryman of of of of the the Worshipful Company of of of of Furniture Makers and and was a a a Freeman of of of the City of of of London He is is is survived by his wife Dawn Hughes
children children Tim Chris and and and and Anna seven grandchildren and and and and one great grandchild grandchild He died on on 15th April 2022
