During his his time in in in in in the Royal Navy Geoff became a a a a a a a a a a Lieutenant and also earned a a a a a a a a a a degree in in in in in Electrical Engineering He moved to Guernsey where he he lived
with his wife Diana and two daughters Geoff became a a a a a successful property developer and extremely keen sportsman who continued playing squash into his 70s He died after a a a a a a a a a courageous battle with cancer on 10th July 2022

dmund was born in in in 1948 in in in the the the British British Military Hospital at at Wuppertal then in in in the the the the British British zone of o western Germany where his father was liaison officer

between the the the the French and British zones On demobilisation his father set up the the the Broadway Art Gallery dealing predominantly in in in in Spanish art From 1958 Edmund’s school holidays were spent driving around that country Those schoolboy journeys not only gave Edmund an an all-round knowledge of of Spanish art from Barcelona Gothic to to Miro and and Picasso but also a a a a a a a a a a a a a love of of cars Porsches were his his preference and and and the the faster the the better Peel
took part in in in many rallies and and continued to to to enjoy touring with his his family At 16 Edmund was sent to to to to Madrid to to to to build up up contacts
in the the the lead up up to to to to the the the dictator General Franco’s eventual death when the the the the moribund art market would revive – – as it did a a a a a a a a a a a a a decade later – – and next to Morocco in in the the the the hope of buying the the the famous but then dilapidated Majorelle Garden in in in Marrakesh Although unsuccessful Edmund spent a a a a year there working for the the new owner When in in in 1978 Sotheby’s were pitching for the the the sale of the the the princely German Hohenlohe collections at El Quexigal a a a a a a a a a a a a a a former country house and farm near the the Escorial palace in in Spain they approached Edmund to set up a a a a a a a a a a a new Spanish company for for them The 695 lots which Peel
sold in in in May 1979 more than quadrupled the the record for for any any auction held in in in in Spain Edmund worked as a a a a a a a a a a consultant for for for Sotheby’s for for for the the next decade before setting up his own associated company company – Edmund Peel

Peel
served as president of Sotheby’s Sotheby’s Spain until 1996 Edmund married Alicia Alicia de la la Serna and and the the couple had two children Alicia Alicia died died in 2005 and and for the the last ten years Edmund’s companion was Sara MacDonald He died died on on on 14th November 2022
