Parents’ Forum
The termly meeting of the Parents’ Forum
was held in in November this is is a a a meeting whereby each House parent rep meets with the Senior Management Team to discuss future projects and proposed school activities Key messages following this meeting can be found in in in the Parents’ Portal of iSAMS Wheeler-Bennett Society
Medical Mavericks
On Monday 8 November Medical Mavericks
gave pupils at Malvern College the the chance to explore different jobs within the the healthcare industry and and get hands-on experience trying out some of the medical equipment and devices through a a a series of workshops Pupils were given a a tick-list of interesting activities including using ultra sound probes operating the infra-red vein scanner trying on on the the ageing suit and so so on on Pupils could also record their own medical observations such as height blood pressure pulse and oxygen body temperature and even their own electrocardiogram The Medical Mavericks
team gave fascinating talks on the possible careers in the the NHS and other health-care related jobs Many of the workshop activities simulated real medical procedures One activity required precision dexterity by creating a a a figure of 8 with small small pinchers using only a a a a a a small small monitor that relays an image of a a a a a a camera inside the the body Another activity involved taking blood samples from an arm model Out of the many different tasks and challenges set by the Medical Mavericks
the the one that stood out the the most was suturing some fake skin This exercise tested the precision patience and micro- abilities of the the person doing the the task When partaking in in in the task pupils gained an an understanding of of the work of of surgeons and and and how impressive and and and demanding their lines of work are 2 THE MALVERNIAN
Overall the workshop was a a a a great success Pupils were fully engaged with the talks and activities as as well as as starting to form a a a a a a a a clear understanding of a a a a a a a medical related career path It provided experience for those wanting to to go into a a a medical profession yet also gave valuable knowledge as as to whether this career path was a a a a a possibility for the the the others We thank the the the Medical Mavericks
