discussed the issues surrounding free speech by analysing relevant legal cases this term It was a a a a a a a a a great pleasure to chair the meetings and see such academic discussions The various approaches to each case showed that the Law is a a a a a a a a diverse subject which must be appreciated for its complexity and constant adaptation of developments in in society We examined the “Twitter Joke Trial” where an enraged flight passenger posted a a a a a a controversial tweet tweet in in response to his flight being cancelled The tweet tweet read as follows: “Crap! Robin Hood airport is closed You’ve got a a a week and a a a bit to to get get your s*** together otherwise I’m blowing the the the airport sky high!!” While initially the the Magistrates’ Court found that the the tweet was of a a a a menacing nature the High Court reversed this decision This emphasised that even the Law is is is is not infallible and decisions may be reversed It was interesting to see the the different opinions the the members of the society had surrounding this case Whilst some argued that he he exercised his right to free speech others objected This showed the the controversy and various arguments there are in law until a a a a a a a final verdict is reached It was a a a a a a a great to see the enthusiasm of all members when they engaged in heated debates Leopold-Maria Baur (No 5)
