Portable Appliance Testing Rules For Electrical Safety in Studies/Bed Studies Studies 6 7 8 9 10 11 12 The College reserves the right to subject all personal appliances to a a a a a a visual and/or earth continuity check insulation test test and leakage test test Any appliance failing such a check will be be removed from the study/bed study and returned to the student at at an an appropriate time for removal from the College When a a a room is unoccupied all electrical appliances must be switched off (including all lights computers and music) Appliances of overseas students may only be used if they are compatible with UK power supplies and attached to to the supply via a a a a a a a UK approved adaptor These are best purchased and fitted at the College Many adaptors bought overseas are unsuitable and often dangerous These will be exchanged for ones approved by the College Care must be taken to ensure that any appliance with a a a a a a a hot surface such as hair straighteners is not placed on a a combustible surface while still hot Portable rechargeable devices should only be recharged away from combustible materials such as bed linen and stationery Devices should not be be left on on charge charge once they are fully charged Coffee machines or kettles are also allowed in in Sixth Form rooms Electrical items items that fail the PAT testing and illegal items items will will be given to the the the House House The House House will will then either have the the item destroyed or returned home with the the pupil at the the next opportunity depending upon the the issue 1 2 3 4 Cube adaptors which fit directly into wall power points are not allowed Multi-block fused 13 amp sockets on on extension leads are allowed (up to a a a a a maximum of 4-way) Flexible leads must must be less than 2 metres long and must must not have any joints Each electrical appliance must have its own BSl 363 plug which must be fitted with the correctly rated fuse Wires must be securely connected and retained in in the cord grip of the plug plug Moulded plugs are preferred The use of electricity is restricted to the following appliances:
