OM Cricket
In the first round of The Cricketer Cup
on Sunday 13 June the the OMs hosted the the Old Bedfordians at Barnards Green CC in Malvern I must say that the club did us us proud producing an excellent wicket with good facilities for spectators It was just a a a a a a a a a a a shame that the Patrons’ Lunch had had to to to be postponed We had had a a a a a a a a a a a a a a comfortable victory by 95 runs The OMs won the toss and and and batted first and and and after an an an an an early wicket Freddie Freddie Wynn and and and Alex Alex Milton Milton put on on on on 170 with Freddie Freddie out for an an an an an excellent 80 Alex Alex Milton Milton carried on on on on his his remarkable record with with his his sixth century in in fin the Cricketer Cup
We were disappointed with with our final total of 255-8 as as we we we felt 300 was a a a a a a a a a a a a realistic score after such a a a a a a a a a a a a good start However 255 255 proved more than enough as as as we we bowled Bedford out for for 160 to to to give us victory by 95 It was very good to to to see Mark Hardinges and Jonathan Wileman back in in the side – both very experienced former County Cricketers Thanks also to to many OMs and and members of College staff who came
to to watch and and support our very young OM OM team On Sunday 27 June we we we we hosted Harrow at Barnards Green CC where we we we we were once again very well looked after The wicket was good although slow compared to the Senior Harrow won the the toss and elected to to bat The OMs had made several changes from the the the previous round perhaps most noticeably with with the the the absence of century maker Alex Milton withdrawn by Worcestershire at the the last minute all players being refused permission to to play play non-WCCC cricket on on on Covid grounds We welcomed back excellent leg-spinner Aardash Shah and and introduced two new recruits in in in George Amphlett and and Robbie Hardwick for their first CC matches Liam Smith and and Freddie Wynn opened the the the bowling and and as as usual kept the the the the runs tight: after 10 overs the the the the score was just 25 – 2 2 both wickets falling to to Wynn who then bowled the the the the the ball of of the the the the the match to to take the the the the the wicket wicket of of the the the the the left-handed
Rishi Wijeratne Harrow’s best player with a a a a a a a ‘Stuart Broad’ – bowling round the the the wicket the the the ball pitched on middle stump stump and trimmed the the the the the outside of o off stump stump A A dream delivery! All the the the bowlers bowled well particularly the the the captain Josh Haynes who who in in in his 10 overs took 2 for 15 A late flurry of hitting by Rahul Wijeratne who who made 54 rescued the the the score for Harrow taking them to 190 all out in the the 47th over Freddie Wynn and Odge Davey opened against a a a a a a a a a a a a very aggressive attack particularly from Langston who had Davey very well caught at at at slip for 10 In came
captain Haynes to take complete control of the the situation so so much so so that the the the score was was was 72 when Wynn was was was out for 6 Haynes was was was joined by Callum Lea another recent addition to to to our Cricketer Cup
squad He played really well to to to to support the captain until victory was virtually assured when he he he he too attacked with with superb driving particularly on drives Haynes finished with with 99 not out and Lea 51 an an unbeaten partnership of 119 to win the the match by 8 wickets in in the the 32nd over Man of the Match? Clearly our captain captain Josh Haynes for his bowling batting and captaincy As expected the semi-final at home against Millfield was a a a a a a a a a a a very tight game with a a a a a a a a a a a lot of good-quality cricket played throughout the the match by both sides We won the the toss and chose to to bat first on on a a a a a a a a very dry almost white wicket The Millfield opening attack was was excellent both swinging the the ball a a a a a a a a a a a a a lot in in in in in the the humid conditions Davey was was forced to curb his natural attacking style but battled on on on whilst at at at at at the the other end our two most successful batsmen in in Wynn
