Recital night
Eight College musicians travelled to to London on on on 15 March 2022 to to present a a a a a a recital at Steinway Steinway Hall – the the home of Steinway Steinway & Sons in in in the the UK This concert was confirmation that Malvern College has become an All-Steinway School – a a a a a a a a a six year journey from the initial discussions and made possible only through a a a a a a a a a most generous philanthropic gift by the the Tanna family Through this programme the the College has been able to replace its ageing pianos with 28 new instruments made by one of the the most famous piano manufacturers in in the the world During the concert Mr Keith Metcalfe Headmaster was presented with a a a a a a a a a beautiful plaque by Mr Keith Glazebrook Commercial Sales Manager at Steinway & Sons finally
to set the the seal on on on the the partnership as Malvern joins this prestigious roll of honour The concert itself was presented by musicians across the the full age range of Malvern pupils and and from six different boarding houses and and the the quality of music-making was exceptional Music from Beethoven Chopin Vinter Schumann Pennequin Britten Debussy Fauré as as as well as as as Bruch’s violin violin concert was superbly performed on on on violin violin piano French horn trumpet flute as as well as as baritone voice We were grateful to to to Mr Malcolm Forbes- Peckham (a former Hillstone pupil and long-time friend of the College) who made time time in in his busy schedule as Assistant Music Director of of ‘Phantom of of the the the Opera’ in in the the the West End to to to come and accompany the the the performers brilliantly Mr McDade Assistant Director of Music welcomed guests to to the the concert and and gave
a a a a a a a a brief introduction about the the the context and and specification of the the piano replacement programme whilst Mr Metcalfe spoke about the the the very real and significant impact that the the the programme has already had at at the the the the College He also outlined the the the next stages of Malvern’s investment in in in in Music Music – namely the the wide-ranging and comprehensive Music Music School Transformation Project
