Music School Transformation Project
The Music School building started life
a a a a world away from music performance opening its doors in in 1851 as a a a spa Indeed many Old Malvernians will know the Music School as as ‘The Monastery’
– yet another clue to the the building’s multi-purpose history We now have have the opportunity to to transform
an an an old building – which happened to to have have suitably sized monk cells and and large meeting rooms – into a a a a a a a a beautiful bespoke and and dedicated department with music firmly in in in mind The proposed redevelopment of the the Music School will radically enhance the the daily experience of all all pupils by creating focused academic teaching areas providing support for contemporary music improving acoustics reducing sound transference and creating a a a a a a better home for our our instruments including our our new Steinway pianos Designed to provide an an an inspirational environment for pupils staff parents and visitors the Music School will be transformed into three zones:
Solo teaching and ensemble performance zone The Lyon Room Room will be renamed the Tia Tanna Room Room Technical upgrades
will transform
the room into a a a a a a a a a a a a a first-class performance venue and rehearsal space Academic teaching zone A computer computer suite comprising 20 computer computer stations for for composition work a a a a a a a classroom for for for general music teaching teaching a a a a a a a a a a smaller space for for for Sixth Form teaching teaching and breakout rooms for for instrumental work Contemporary music and recording zone A new area created to the highest possible standard including a a a a a a a a a high high specification recording facility for all styles of music New Tia Tanna Room Artist impression (formerly Lyon Room)
