by his his family and and and his his many friends His natural individuality and and and enthusiasm for what life had to offer was manifest with flamboyance and and a a a a a a a a a a a a a a a a a a humour that that can be summarised in his his last ‘battle orders’ to to his his his daughters He suggested that that any memorial stone might recognise his his auctioneering career with the epitaph ‘Going Going Going Gone’ Knott David George

David won a a a a a a a a a a a State Scholarship and an an exhibition to to read history at at at Trinity College Cambridge In National Service he he he he was commissioned into the the the Royal Engineers and took part in in in in in in in the the the abortive invasion of Egypt during the the the Suez crisis ending up up in in in in in Port Said After National Service he he he he he went up up to to to Cambridge where he he he changed his his course from history to to natural sciences and and obtained a a a a a a a a a a a a 2 1 He joined Sir Alexander Gibb & Partners as as a a a a a a a a a a a a a a a a civil engineer where he he specialised
in in in in waterworks and and sewerage and and was involved in in in in amongst other major major overseas projects the the the development studies
of of the the the the Indus Valley in Pakistan a a a a a a a a a a a a a major major World Bank funded scheme He He later became an an an an an Associate of of of the the the firm He He was was a a a a a a a a a a a a a keen TA Sapper rising to to to the the the rank of of Lt Col and was awarded the the Territorial Decoration He retired to to to to Jersey where he he he he he renewed his his love of of history and embarked
on on on writing a a a a a a thesis on on on the the Evolution of of Western Europe Although he he he he he he never married he he he he he he took a a a a a a a great interest
in in in in all his nieces and and other members of of the the family He was a a a a a a a a a a a a a a man of of high intellect and and and and integrity well read and and and very knowledgeable with a a a a a a a a a a a kind heart and and and a a a a a a a a a a a gentle sense of humour He will be sorely missed

Died 9 December 2021 aged 86 After graduating with a a a a a a MA in in in Modern History from Hertford College Oxford Clyde began dairy farming near Droitwich and interested in in in in in rare breed White Park cattle he he he he introduced them into his herd He was Chairman of Worcestershire Worcestershire Grass Society and the the Worcestershire Worcestershire Dairy Farmers Group Semi-retired to to Knighton-on-Teme where he he he became Church Warden and and raised a a a a a a a a a a a a suckler cow herd He had a a a a a a a a a a a a a a lifelong interest
in in in in vintage cars and and owned several On retiring to Hanley Swan he he became a a a a a a a a a a a a a keen supporter of OM cricket and was a a a a a a a a well-known figure on on on the the the bench overlooking the the the pitch When climbing the the the Pavilion steps became difficult he he he he he he got College permission to to sponsor handrails from the local blacksmith He always looked forward to to to meeting up with his contemporaries at Benefactors’ lunches and Reunions REMEMBERED
