Webb Peter Johnson Ivan
Died after a a a long illness on on August 10 2021 aged 79 (4 57-60)
Peter Webb Webb was born in in the the Cotswolds in in 1942 the the son of John John Webb Webb a a a a a a a a a a a a a physics teacher who had worked on on radar during the the war and and his wife Margaret Margaret John John and and Margaret Margaret later took over the the running of Bentham Grammar School
in in West Yorkshire where Webb and his sister Jean were educated after which he he went to Malvern After a a a a a a a a a gap year working as a a a a a a a a a cowboy in in in Colorado he he he he went up to to Trinity Hall Cambridge where he he he he read physics then changed to to to law graduating with a a a a a a a a a a a a a 2:2 before returning to to to America for for a a a a a a a a a a a a a a year learning the the basics of photography in in in in in in advertising advertising He spent his early career in in in in the 60s as as advertising advertising photographer for brands such as as Hovis White Horse Courage and and and Martell brandy In 1970 he he he he married the the the Irish-born Eithne O’Sullivan then a a a a a a a a a journalist on on the the the Evening Standard whom he he he he had had first met on on a a a a a a a a a a a university skiing holiday They had had three children: Tom Jack and Vanessa In 1971 he he took his famous candid photograph of Mick Jagger hands in in in in pockets yawning with the the other ‘Stones’ giggling behind which was voted one one of of 100 best rock‘n’roll photographs of of all time On returning from America he founded Park Village his own film studio making commercials in in in in an

which he he saved from demolition He won a a a a a a a a BAFTA for a a a a a a a a short short film he he he directed and scripted from a a a a a a a a a a Damon Runyon short short story ‘Butch minds the Baby’ Park Village went on on on to to win numerous awards including two Palmes d’Or at at Cannes He also directed the feature film Give My Regards to Broadstreet starring Paul McCartney Much of his and Eithne’s life together was spent at at their country home near Malvern His later passion was painting and and he he would become a a a a a a a a a a a a a proficient artist exhibiting in in in in London and and Italy A laid-back figure who never took to to the the glamorous social world of the the advertising community he he he he he once said that his ideal life was living in in in in the the country and mowing the the lawn Died October 2021 aged 68 (SH 67-71) School

of a a a a a a a a a a a a a a a cricketing career that would see him make 118 Test appearances Ivan’s had just three years to run The best of of them followed in 1973 when he he he he he he was a a a member of of the the the Worcestershire side that won the the the County Championship but disillusioned with life as a a a a a a a county cricketer and the lack of prospects it it it afforded it it it proved his penultimate season From Malvern’s perspective Ivan
signed off in in in in in in in style in in in in in in in 1975 by playing two match-winning innings for the the Old Malvernians in in in in in in their successful Cricketer Cup campaign Having mothballed his cricket whites Ivan
