The Super-Curricular
Lower School
Aston Society: A programme of pupil and teacher presentations on a wide range of topics and disciplines.
Lower School Scholars are encouraged to attend Sixth Form subject lectures that may be of interest to them.
Sixth Form
Wheeler-Bennett Society: Led by the Sixth Form and seeks to promote the stimulation and exchange of ideas. It meets three times a term and one pupil, or sometimes two, present a paper on a topic of interest; discussion follows on the issues raised in the paper.
Recent topics have included “The rule of the rabble: is democracy the best form of government?”, “Size matters: the physics of evolution”, “The evolution of the fairytale”, and “How to spot a witch”. Presenters
gain knowledge of a particular topic and have the opportunity to develop essential
experience of public speaking.

and the Curriculum
There are many academic clubs that
run on a weekly basis to provide opportunities and stretch beyond the main timetable: Philosophy, MFL Literary Society, Robotics and Coding, Politics and Foreign Affairs Society, Model
UN, QinetiQ Young Engineers, Law, Writers’ Inc, Literary society, Maths Team Challenge, Debating (Junior and Sixth Form), Cyber Club, Digital Leaders (plus a variety of Art, Music, Drama and DT clinics and clubs).

Pupil Passport
The FY curriculum (Yr 9) reform for 2019- 20 was launched in September 2019
and includes each of the FY developing an interest or skill of their own. From September 2019, the most able FY pupils will be taken one evening every other week for a teacher-led presentation/ lecture, followed by discussion on an area of academic interest. In alternate weeks, the same able cohort will meet for pupil-led discussion, following up
on research they will have been set the previous week.
Weekly Academic clinics are offered in a vast range of subjects, with the remainder offering additional support on an appointment basis.
