MALVERN COLLEGE
An All-
Steinway
School
Malvern College is to become an All-Steinway School, a prestigious accolade that will transform the school’s music-making. Thanks to an anonymous donation of over £600,000, the College’s current pianos will be replaced by 37 Steinway instruments, including an upright in each of the 11 boarding houses, numerous practice pianos and two top-of-the-range concert grands. The biggest is a spectacular 9-foot ‘Model D’, destined for recitals in Big School, the College’s main performance space. The project is part of an ambitious year- long £2.5 million refurbishment of Malvern’s historic Music School, which will improve the heating, sound proofing and acoustics, too. The College is also trying to raise around £1.5 million to replace its Chapel organ.

House Drama Competition
This is one of Malvern’s great traditions
and it is no mean feat to put on a theatre production. From the selection of a play, the editing, choosing a cast, rehearsal organisation, selecting props and costumes, sound effects.... the list goes on. The plays this year were ‘A Midsummer Night’s Dream’, ‘Daisy Pulls it Off’ and ‘The Boy in the Striped Pyjamas’. Prizes were awarded in an ‘Oscars’ style ceremony with all of the glitz and glamour too.
All three performance evenings offered a rich variety of theatrical experiences. Playing to packed houses each night, the ensembles certainly gave their all. A strong sense of teamwork enjoyment, commitment and passion was evident in each House cast
and their technical crew.
