I fitted a thick insulating and fireproof rubber type material over my engine bay, used on boats. As a firewall should your boat have an engine fire. Seems to make a difference, but I don't have access to a decibel noise meter type thing to apply a scientific approach. Thought that if I should ever have an engine fire (God forbid) it will buy me vital seconds to escape.

Fitted silent coat sound deadening when we did our van and to be honest, once all the furniture etc is in, I don’t think it makes a huge difference. Insulation wise, nothing really as heat is lost through the glass and roof! Decent curtains actually help with keeping heat in. Sound wise, it can stop the more flimsy body panels resonating. Must admit, our engine is loud but when driving it’s quite comfortable inside so maybe it did make a difference.

Looks like a Danbury.

Never too old to live and learn.
Colin Little remarked
Definitely a Danbury.
Nick Cooper replied
Danbury. The same as mine with same struts and brackets. Those struts are springs and mine were shot so had to swap them out for more modern gas ones last year.

Hi all. I bought a T2 (reg March 1980) just last month. All completely new to me, as I’ve camped for years in tents. I’ll be getting it all serviced and checked over by the lovely people at VWorks soon.
Stupid question though... what type of pop top roof do I have? I’ve scoured internet to try and figure this, but not exactly sure. If someone could help, I’d be grateful. I’ll post some pics. Excuse the state of it, lots of work to be done, and I’m trying to learn as much as possible!! Many thanks! Ju
