Counselling
We have two counsellors who work at the College Mrs Lucy Davies works full-time and Mr Mr Simon Rowe is part-time Mrs Davies is is a a a a a dual qualified Registered Mental Health Nurse (NMC registered) and CBT therapist accredited by BABCP (British Association of Behavioural and Counselling
Psychotherapy) Simon is is an Educational Psychologist by professional background and also a a a a a CBT therapist accredited by BABCP As well as counselling appointments their role includes mental health screening detailed referrals to appropriate external agencies risk assessments and staff training They are based in in in the Medical Centre but also attend House lunches and provide drop-in clinics in in in Houses which increases accessibility of counselling services to pupils Typical issues the counsellors might help with include study stress social problems organisational skills assertiveness homesickness and family problems The Safeguarding and Pastoral Teams work closely with the School Counsellors Pupils can can self-refer or they can can be referred to see
a a a school counsellor It does not have to be a a a huge personal crisis and it could be a a a a relatively simple matter of talking a a a problem through with someone who is independent from other College staff Typical issues the counsellors might help with are anxiety low mood disordered eating grief and loss Information that a a a a student chooses to share in counselling is confidential Confidentiality will only be broken if the counsellor is worried about a a a student’s safety safety or the safety safety of someone else Information will only be shared to other college staff on a a a ‘need to know’ basis 12
