History of the Strength & & Conditioning (S&C) Suite
The S&C suite is positioned on on the left-hand side of the sports hall and was turned into a a a a a gym 6 years ago from originally being a a a a a storage cupboard This was to to entice Worcestershire C C C C C C C C C in and to to have a a a a a a more suitable training base in in in addition to the hall itself However the working space is relatively small and storage space has also been lost The S&C suite currently measures 430 square feet industry standards of square footage for equipment and people training equates to roughly 60-70 square foot for both the the person and the the equipment they are using therefore in in our S&C suite we can only facilitate 6 pupils training at at once without having to use the sports hall for more space As you will see later in this document our suite is is packed full of equipment so we can only have 4-5 pupils training at once before health and safety becomes an issue At the the point when the the gym was originally built the the equipment initially supplied in in the the gym was the 2 fixed squat racks and platforms with old metal weight plates (1 25-20kg sets) dumbbells ranging from 22-50kg glute ham raise machine two chrome Olympic bars and three weight benches Due to these dumbbells being made of metal they are very difficult to maintain and require constant attention to ensure they are safe and fit for purpose The weights can become loose over time and furthermore if dropped can cause damage
to surrounding equipment / floor if not placed back down on rubber matting Therefore despite supplying them the the weights were not suitable for Worcestershire C C C C C C C C C to use on the platforms and further equipment was required In terms of the Elite Performer Programme Ryan Watkins led the programme which focused on running mechanics with talented upper school pupils only Since Ryan left Jordan Nwachukwu became responsible with the employment of Simon Woodward as a a a a strength and conditioning coach – the first qualified personnel They worked closely together to to improve both the the provision
of equipment and service to the pupils which immediately started reaping benefits Simon then took over when Jordan departed in January 2017 with Ben Humphrys being employed in in September 2017 – two qualified personnel This is is still the case with the the pathway relying on goodwill from other sports coaches to support the process
