A range of non-alcoholic drinks and ice-creams are also available. Pupils must swipe their cards to be served at the bar and there is a strictly enforced time limit between alcoholic drinks. Pupils are monitored to ensure they have eaten supper before attending Longy – if a pupil has not been observed eating Saturday supper, then they will not be served alcohol. Similarly, alcohol limits can be easily changed if pupils are on medication or following communication from parents or House staff (please email
Mrs Barbara Swart: barbara.swart@ malverncollege.org.uk).
In the Autumn Term, a Charity Ball (referred to as ‘CVS’) takes place on a Saturday evening instead of Longy. This is organised by the School Council and pupils usually dress up (e.g. black tie) and a professional DJ is hired with other entertainments for the evening.
Pub Chits for 18-year-olds
When pupils turn 18, they may request a pub chit on a Saturday evening from their HouseM. This allows them to go to Malvern at 20:30, and they must return to Houses by 22:30. Pupils may visit Wetherspoons in Malvern,
and they must stick to Longy limits and school rules (i.e. no more than three alcoholic drinks and no alcoholic spirits). Pupils must meet with the Deputy Head (Mr Lewis Faulkner) before requesting their first pub chit. Teachers are on duty in Malvern on a Saturday evening, and they patrol the public houses and keep a discreet eye on pupils. If pupils return to Houses late, or if they consume more than Longy limits, then they may be denied a pub chit in the future.
