We occasionally invite drugs sniffer dogs into the College with the dual aims of education and deterrence. We do this not because we think we have a drugs problem in the College, rather we want to ensure that we continue to avoid having issues of this nature. We are very aware of external pressures confronting teenagers, especially at parties and festivals, and we want to send a very clear and engaging educational message. When sniffer dogs visit the College, we take the dogs around boarding houses and pupils are clearly reminded of the school policy
which states that any pupil found possessing, using or supplying drugs can expect to be permanently excluded. They are also reminded that if any pupil voluntarily comes forward to seek help, independent of a disciplinary incident, a supportive regime (including a drugs-testing programme) may be offered as an alternative,
at the Headmaster’s discretion. Pupils are also regularly given the opportunity to discuss these issues through our close pastoral support network and through our Life Skills programme.
