Boarding school life encourages young people to live with greater independence, but it also requires sensible management of personal belongings. We ask parents and guardians
to help us instil good habits in their children regarding valuables and cash.
Sensible precautions
» Limit what is brought to school: Pupils should bring only essential items of value. Expensive jewellery, designer clothing, or large sums of money are not necessary in the boarding environment and can cause worry if mislaid.
» Use of safes: pupils are provided with hotel- style safes in their rooms. They are strongly encouraged to use these to store valuables.
» Cash management: Our campus is largely cash-free and pupils are encouraged to
use a debit card. Cash of any denomination should not be kept in House. Up to £100
of cash can be stored in the duty room for
a pupil for safekeeping. Sums above £100 should be handed immediately to House staff and then paid into a UK bank account at the earliest opportunity.
» Marking possessions: All pupil possessions should be named. This simple step greatly reduces the risk of loss and confusion.
Responding to allegations of theft
Despite best efforts, occasions sometimes
arise when a pupil believes something has
been stolen. The school treats such situations with the utmost seriousness. Initially House
staff will first explore whether the item has
simply been mislaid, as this is often the case.
If theft is suspected, then the matter will be investigated thoroughly. Proven instances of theft are addressed firmly in line with the school’s Promoting Good Behaviour and Discipline policy. Parents or guardians will be kept informed at appropriate stages, particularly where the matter escalates beyond a simple misplacement.
Our overarching aim is to foster a community built on trust, respect, and responsibility. With the right guidance at home and school, pupils quickly learn to look after their belongings while contributing to a culture where everyone’s property is safe.
