WELCOME
Welcome to the Boarding House! Abberley is a busy prep school with a lot going on so the purpose of this section of the handbook is for parents to know as much as possible about what their children need and what they will be getting up to in order to hopefully make the transition to boarding at Abberley a positive experience for you and for your child. The most important thing for parents to know is that their children are going to be very well looked after and that they will be very happy.
This guide will tell you everything you need to know about the boarding routines at Abberley. It will sound like a lot but it will all make sense very quickly once your child starts their Abberley boarding journey. If you have any questions now or at any stage in the future, then please do get in touch straight away. You can email Toby Dunham, the Head of Boarding, on toby.dunham@abberleyhall.co.uk.
PART-TIME & OCCASIONAL BOARDING
Part-time boarding has become increasingly popular and day children often decide to try a little boarding at some stage during their time at school.
Although many children board for seven nights a week at Abberley Hall, many choose to board for any number of nights each week and some weekly board.
Often parents would like to give their child the experience of a boarding night before making a commitment to either part or full-time boarding,
and this is usually possible. Day children can try out boarding, either during one of the Taster weekends or at any other stage. It is also possible for day children to board on an ad hoc basis if, for example, parents are away.

Once having made the decision to do some boarding, it is important to maintain positive and encouraging support to your child. If they see you are anxious about them boarding, they will find it more difficult to settle. Always try leave them in a happy and confident way.

Full Boarders are allowed to bring a lockable tuck box into school which can be filled with their favourite sweet treats from home! They have access to these on a Wednesday night and at the weekend. Please remember weare a NUT FREE school.
