COMMUNICATION FOOD
Mobile Phones: All boarders are invited to bring to school a mobile phone. This is locked away and charged during the day and children are allowed to use them in the evening after activities. Mobiles can be used to make voice calls or to make use of the pupil Wi-Fi for video calling home. The pupil Wi-Fi
is only turned on in the evenings for boarders. The password will be given to all boarders at the start of term.
Email: All pupils at Abberley have a school email address. Boarders have opportunities at break times and at weekends to use the computer suites to email home.
Postcards: Anyone who stays in for the weekend writes a postcard home on Sunday evening which gets posted on Monday. If children would like to write home for any other occasion then they ask for help from the houseparents who can provide letter writing equipment or cards etc.
Post: Everyone loves receiving letters and parcels from home. The address to send these to is: [Name of Pupil], Abberley Hall School, Abberley, Worcestershire, UK, WR6 6DD.

The food at Abberley is really tasty! Here is a selection of menus we have enjoyed recently:
BREAKFAST:
American pancakes with maple syrup, grilled bacon, croissants and pastries, sausage and egg, French toast and streaky bacon etc.
LUNCHES:
Slow roasted brisket of beef, Onion jam and spinach puff tart, fruity turkey and lentil curry, fisherman’s pie, stuffed peppers with couscous, full Sunday roast.
SUPPER:
Tortellini, Mediterranean chicken tray bake, pork stir fry, Mexican tacos, pizzas etc. Also at every supper there is an alternative either jacket potato or pasta option.
Children can feedback about food at our weekly boarding meeting and also through our food council.
HOMESICKNESS
The days at Abberley are full and exciting for all children and this means that most children don’t have the opportunity to have too much time to stop and think about missing home. If children do find that they are on their own and feeling upset or sad then they will be told who they can talk to. There are a lot of staff living onsite who are available 24 hours a day, including the Houseparents, GAP students, School Nurse and the Headmaster and his wife. During the day there are also Personal Tutors, Form Teachers, heads of year, other staff, friends and of course parents. For every child starting boarding it is exciting but can also be unsettling. Everyone feels the same way when they start something new so children are told that this is normal and the best thing to do is to talk about how they are feeling. The house parents will keep parents informed of how their child is settling in.
