HEADS OF SECTION AND TUTORS CONTINUED...
Form Tutors
In Years 3, 4 & 5, each form has a Form Tutor.
For these year groups, this is the heart of our pastoral system. The Form Tutor will have regular contact with their form and the opportunity with each pupil to discuss all aspects of school life, including aims for the term, successes and problems as well as seeing their form as a group each day. Form Tutors see every Progress Report and End of Term Report and write their own comment in these. Please contact the Form Tutor in the first instance if you would like to discuss anything at all.
Personal Tutors
In Year 6, 7 & 8 every pupil will have their own individual Personal Tutor.
Usually these will stay the same for all three years. A pupil will meet their Personal Tutor on a weekly basis at a pre-arranged and regular time. These meetings will be private and 1:1. Tutorials will routinely cover behaviour, Effort Grades, decisions over Independent Learning, Reports, exam grades and any specific academic or pastoral concerns.
Tutors will contact parents within the first week
of each term and parents must use Tutors as the
first point of contact to discuss any issues or concerns relating to school. The Tutor will act as
the pupil’s mentor and advocate within the school. This may mean occasionally delivering a tough message but a Tutor should be seen as working very much on behalf of their tutee. This relationship grows over time and becomes the source of much pastoral guidance and support.
ILLNESS OR INJURY
COPIES OF THE SCHOOL’S FIRST AID AND MEDICAL POLICIES ARE AVAILABLE ON OUR WEBSITE OR UPON REQUEST
If children are unwell or injured then they should report to our School Nurse. As well as our School Nurse, many staff have undertaken advanced first aid training.
If they are ill, they may be given treatment and rest for a while on the school Surgery before getting on with their day or they may be put to bed in the Medical Centre whilst being monitored and cared for by the School Nurse. Parents are always informed if the illness is other than very temporary and are welcome to visit. In most cases it is better for the child to remain at school, since travelling when ill does not aid recovery.
Injuries are rare, and most are slight. These are treated in the school dispensary. If there is any doubt, the child is taken to the local medical practice in Great Witley or the casualty department of Worcester Royal Infirmary or Kidderminster, and parents are informed as soon as possible.
Day pupils will be put into the school sick bay if they feel ill and their parents will be contacted as soon as possible. Day pupils’ parents are requested to inform the School Nurse should they wish their child to be off games for medical reasons.
When children join the school, parents will be asked to complete medical and allergy forms and this information will be stored confidentially on our database.
O F F G A M E S
If day pupils need to be ‘off games’, the school must be informed in writing. This should be handed to the Form Tutor or put in the School Office. Occasionally, if a child starts to feel unwell during the day, then the School Nurse will make this decision and inform parents.
