Then for some purely benevolent reason, he decided to highlight me. He wrote:
“One of the most popular players on the team is Jimmy Tulloch. No player on the team contributed more to the spirit that held the team together in the lean days of July when they lost nine straight to put them out of contention. Jimmy is one of the best team men in the lineup and his consistent good humour and encouragement helped make possible the late season surge that brought the team back from oblivion to a near miss for the playoffs.”
Wow! I was speechless. He then went on to describe my hitting and fielding. (These were much briefer paragraphs:-) It was a heartwarming tribute. I was deeply touched. In closing he wrote:
“On Monday evening it was 90 degrees in Streetsville, but there was Jim Tulloch practising down in the infield at the ball park gobbling up grounders with the enthusiasm and cheerfulness that makes him a favourite of his teammates on any team for which he has ever played” –Ross Goheen
