The first-year health studies students
focus so much on the academic
workload that they don’t have time to
spare for their social life. Social life
doesn’t necessarily mean going to
parties and getting crazy. Sometimes,
it means just catching up with your
friends, spending quality time with
others, going out to the movies and
more. Doing simple things that don’t
involve school and homework can be
having a social life. With the excessive
amount of workload, it is nearly
impossible to do anything else but
your homework. And when the
homework is done, there is another
assignment due the next day or a
midterm you have to start studying for.
The amount of work given by school
significantly stresses students out. But
only focusing on your academic
success and not giving yourself time
to have fun can stress students out
even more. Having a social life is
important because it relieves students
of stress they have from university.
However, most students find it difficult
to spare some time to have fun with
some friends. This can be detrimental
to the student’s mental health as
excessive stress can lead to mental
health issues. A survey was
conducted around the campus of
Waterloo to examine if health students
felt they had time for their social life.
