Following the Beat Generation’s
        beginnings in New York City’s
        Greenwich Village to their
        Westward move to San Francisco,
you can see that aside from fresh
        and unconventional literary ideas,
the Beats brought with them the
appreciation for jazz and the sense of
        community found within the walls
        of local coffeehouses.

            Strangely enough, the Beats’
presence created a sort of anti-
        establishment establishment vibe
        within these social spaces.
            Jazz clubs are pretty standard
in North America, though most, if
not all of these venues are closer to
        formal dining restaurants with live
        music and alcohol.
            Nowadays, Western jazz clubs
cater to an older crowd, save for the
        occasional curious younger group
or, in my experience, a high school
concert band with a music director Photo courtesy Leanne Staples , Shoot New York City
